The Moore Medical Low Ankle Walker: Protects, Cushions and Helps Mobility

The Moore Medical Low Ankle Walker provides mobility and protection for patients with ankle injuries such as stable or stress fractures of the ankle and ankle sprains. This ankle walker has three straps that are adjustable: one strap above the ankle and two straps over the forefoot area. A tacked in tongue will stay in place during fitting and patients will gain a comfortable fit since the walker has foam liner and comes with two pads to cushion the ankle's Malleolus areas: the inner and outer bony sides of the ankle. The rocker bottom is long lasting and will improve gait while the uprights, one set on either side of the ankle, offer protection and stability. The Moore Medical Low Ankle Walker is the perfect solution for mobile patients with ankle injuries.

Things to keep in mind about Moore Medical Low Ankle Walkers:

• Ideal for patients with ankle injuries such as sprains, stable fractures and stress fractures
• Foam liner offers comfort and a tacked in tongue is stable when fitting
• Comes with a 10" shaft
• When selecting size, make sure the size of the Ankle Walker is the same as your shoe size
• Straps can be trimmed at the ends for desired length
• We suggest keeping the plastic coverings over the two uprights during fitting since the uprights are covered with hook and loop fabric, which sticks immediately to the outer foam and straps
• The two uprights must remain at 90 degrees
• Snug the boot liner as close as you can to the cast or dressing
• The heel height should be the same as the heel height of an athletic shoe - if the heel height of the boot is higher than your shoe it will add stress on joints, which could cause pain and potential injury to the hip, knees or back; if this occurs we recommend using the Evenup Leveling Device to equalize limb length
• Two pads are provided to help cushion the inner and outer sides of the ankle bone
• Rocker bottom improves gait and mobility
• This ankle walker can be washed by hand using a cloth with light amount of water then left to air dry

The boot looks good and fits fairly well as is. However, the main support comes from a metal bar on each side that is covered with the prickly part of velcro. The inner slightly padded boot lining is no match for the steel and the spikey velcro. Almost immediately, I had abrasions and bruises where the top of the metal bar was. I am a resourceful person and realized I'm stuck with these beasties so I improved them. I added my orthotics and a foot shaped piece of foam underneath them. I made a collar out of closed cell foam that encircles my calf, protecting me from bruising and velcro. Then, I wrapped an elastic bandage over the top part of the boot to further immobilize my leg. Now, I have a product that I can get around in without pain.
