Nice shoe but NOT "AFO Friendly"

I chose these shoes (8.5WW, bone color) because they specifically said AFO Friendly. An AFO brace goes around your foot (partially) and around your calf. The ankle area is hinged and purposely made wide so as not to put any pressure around your damaged ankle. These shoes and even the Velcro straps are actually very stiff, so they are not that easy to spread open wide. The deal breaker for me is that the sides are relatively high and the tongue (also stiff) comes up to my ankle so they put too much pressure around my ankle and slightly restrict the brace hinges. They are not AFO friendly for me and I must return them. These shoes seem very well made of good quality materials so if you do not wear a brace, I think these shoes would be very supportive. If the soles of your feet are sensitive I suggest ordering a half size up so you can add a cushioning insole.
